These books are an afternoon escape , all in one hit if I can 😂. I’ve got to know the lead character well now and enjoy the way the stories evolve and keep me guessing .

I have read all the books in this series and they have all been brilliant

'Sticks and Stones' is a creepy thriller that will keep you guessing. The more clues are discovered, the more weird it gets. Throw in several amateur surgeries, vengeful demons from local folklore and a bit of 2nd quessing abour the competence of the lead investigator and you've got the community on the verge of panicking. Don't pass on this latest book by writer Jack Probyn.

Book two in the DI Stephanie Broadbent series finds us broadening out to meet more of her team. The story is fast paced; a series of burglaries occuring that happen overnight and nothing is taken… except a balloon is left in the bedroom of the sleeping child. This soon leads the team into a near identical crime thirty years previously that Steph seems familiar with…. Had me guessing up to the last page! Thank you Jack, for naming a character after me (and not killing me; perhaps I could be a future police officer based on my experience, haunted by the ghosts of that night, with her faithful cat by her side? No? Ok)⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The third book in the DI Stephanie Broadbent series is amazing keeps you hooked till the very end another 5 star read

OMG this grabs you from the very start and it does not let go. Book one in this new series and it definitely has plenty of thrills and chills and keeps you guessing from start to finish. DI Steph Broadbent has moved back home and has to start over with a new to her team which brings its own issues from certain members. As well as having personal issues to work through and lots of unpacking to do, there’s a killer loose on campus and no two murders are the same and as if they are taunting the police, the killer leaves a voodoo doll behind showing how the next victim will die!! It’s a gripping and enthralling read as the author spins this story throwing twists and turns in our path and leaves us aghast with an ending I definitely did not see coming! I am so excited to see more from this series!

Thought book one was good, well wait till you read book two cause it will blow you away! A balloon is found in a little girls bedroom one morning, house locked up tight, no evidence anywhere. Call in detective Stephanie Broadbent and team who make a chilling discovery that this has happened before. It’s a race against the clock to find out who this culprit is before someone gets hurts but with twists and turns and multiple surprises thrown in our path, the author does an incredible job of alluding as to whom the culprit could be. Thrill and chills, mystery and suspense, this had me glued to the pages from start to finish!

I read this as a beta version (so changes have been made). I have read the Jake Tanner series, Tomek Bowen and love them. So a new character, new setting, is a refreshing addition. From the start the storyline is packed with detail; the unsettling feeling of fitting into a new team is really highlighted and the characters are all very different. I particularly disliked one - for deliberately going off orders - and the fact that I had barely warmed to him by the end showed that Jacks writing is so good. Stephanie is a very complex character; she has demons that aren’t your stereotypical main character ones - so links to useful sites are in the book. I didn’t see the end coming; the murders are well written and tie together well. The version I read is not the published one, so I did read the new book and it fitted perfectly. Just started it and promises to be as good as the previous books in this series

Still suspended and under investigation from book seven, Tomek & Kasia are taking a long weekend on Mersey island for its regatta weekend. You would think that a small island wouldn’t have any problems but boy does it have issues and secrets, so many secrets and then the bodies start piling up! It’s a weekend of laughs and some fun, secrets, betrayals, murder and deception as we see Tomek do what he does best and unearth the culprit and upset the local police. There’s mystery and suspense and twists and turns you will not see coming as you try to guess who is behind it all, which I did not and it made my jaw drop plus we get to see a little more of a different side to Kasia in this one which will also make you gasp especially with that ending!! I have to say, This had me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails to the quick!

After reading the previous books in this series I couldn't wait for this one !

A recently released predator waits at night for the seven-year-old girl he expects to arrive. Instead it is death that greets him in a very grisly manner and the case falls to Southend CID which includes DS Tomek Bowen, a good but flawed detective who still has nightmares about his lack of identification of his brother’s killer when he was a young boy. It’s not long before another ex-prisoner with a similar history of depraved crimes is found at his home, murdered in the same way. Most of the team feel these men got what they deserve, a view shared by the general public, but any murder has to be investigated and the idea that a vigilante is using a child to lure their victims is not a nice one in a case that touches everyone.
Along with the rest of the team, the rather complex character of Tomek slowly grew on me as the story progressed and we hear more about the events which have shaped his life as he juggles his dislike of his DI, his budding romance and this grim case with a twisty narrative and a shocking conclusion. By the end I really liked Tomek and his colleagues as they all proved their worth. A very good opening to a new series and I look forward to the next story.
